Frankincense, also called olibanum (Arabic: luban) is an aromatic resin obtained from trees of the genus Boswellia, ours a high concentrated blend particularly from B. carterii. It has strong-smelling, antiseptic, expectorant, and decongestant properties. Frankincense resin (gum, not oil) is edible and often used as traditional medicine in many Asian countries to cure bronchial and urinary infections. In China it is used to relieve menstrual pain, gum, mouth, and throat complaints, and also as a rejuvenating medicine in India. Boswellia trees can grow environments so unforgiving such as growing out of solid rock.

Benefits

Frankincense has anti-inflammatory effects that may help reduce joint inflammation caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Researchers believe that frankincense can prevent the release of leukotrienes, which are compounds that can cause inflammation. Terpenes and boswellic acids appear to be the strongest anti-inflammatory compounds in Frankincense. In one study, participants given 1 gram per day of frankincense extract for eight weeks reported less joint swelling and pain than those given a placebo. They also had a better range of movement and were able to walk further than those in the placebo group. **For External use only

Sourced from the highlands of Somalia, Boswellia Carterii is the most well known and used of the Frankincense species producing an essential oil with an intoxicatingly smooth and relaxing aroma. This oil is high in alpha-pinene, and other monoterpenes making it a great immune support. It is beneficial for the skin such as reducing the appearance of mature skin and scars due to its ability to repair skin cells. The respiratory system can also benefit from this oil as it aids breathing. It has a deep, rich, grounding aroma which touts the ability to quiet the mind, support focus, and encourage tranquility.

Boswellia frereana is typically grown at a higher altitude, giving this oil a unique chemical makeup. It is high in pinene, thujene, and cymene, giving this oil great anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antispasmodic, and analgesic properties. This oil is beneficial in relieving inflammation caused by arthritis, swelling, and allergies. It is also an excellent addition to local pain blends. What’s commonly notable about this oil’s aroma, is its citrus-lemon top notes and earthy, resinous Frankincense heart.

Our resins are superior to the lower quality, mutated-grade common to the lowlands in that they contain minimal-to-no traces of decyl methyl ether and octyl acetate components. We are the only Frankincense oil producer to sample-distill and sample-test the quality of bulk oleogum-resins at source within Somalia prior to sorting and grading. This enables us to isolate the highest quality resins for our oil production.
